This morning I woke up with yellowish mucus suggestion an infection. I had been going around in da word with running nose producing colorless mucus since d beginning of this week. I haven't had a clue how and why it got worse today, n I had 2 be in ward d whole day! This SUX. Life sux. Get a life, medical students.
Imagine u had 2 present a case 4 d 1st time in ur life during a ward round at 5.30pm to the most demanding n fussy consultant in d hospital, n worse, with a running nose and a sexy husky voice, n expected 2 stay for the entire ward round till 8pm. Old man, I's there since 9am ok...just be nicer 2 me la pls...but I still got screwed. Every single line in my history sheet needed an improvement. Damn it. As a medic student, I'm already used 2 taking humiliation humbly. I did, in front of a group of smart docs. Thank God that was on Tuesday...
My lovely consultant with a severe old english man accent didn't humiliate me 2day, thank God. Instead I've got a chance to humiliate him, if only I dared to. As usual, Registrar, SHO, HO n 3 of us medic students grouped around the boss (C) discussing the cases. As usual, we remained in a solemn silence. Who wants 2 make noise when a bunch of genius r talking?
C : So, tell me about sickle cell anaemia. (Finally he asked something that I remember-me!me!) HO : The patient has abnormal Haemoglobin (Hb), Hbs. C : Yes, which part of the haemo-globin (emphasizing d hyphen) is affected? Silence... C : What does a Hb consist of? SHO (smarter) : haem n globin chains. C : How many globin chains? SHO : 2 α n 2 β? C : Yea. 1 of d β chain is modified. How? SHO : Valine for... C : No, it's glutamic acid for valine, at 6th position of d chain. Me : ????
Maybe I was wrong, quickly checked the Oxford handbook... He was wrong. Nah, just keep quiet la. I dun expect a 60-year-old (I think) consultant to remember biochem stuff. If I made noise, he'd probably fail me in this medicine firm 4 weeks later.
Probably i'm being punished for being so judgemental this morning...Fever just started 2 haunt me since 4pm...Freaking cold!
